Date: January 8, 2003 NAT Announces STX100 Airborne Satellite Communication System Northern Airborne Technology is pleased to announce it has designed and developed a certified airborne satcom system capable of voice and data operations. The STX100 Satellite Communication System is specifically designed for airborne operations worldwide, utilizing the GlobalstarTM network of communication satellites. The system consists of the STX100-000 Transceiver, PTA12-000 Dialer/Adapter and GlobalstarTM system compatible antenna, and is STC’d. Flight crew and passengers can access the satcom using the dialer/adapter or a handset. Using the dialer/adapter, the satcom system is accessed through the aircraft audio system, maintaining full headset operation. Dialer/adapter features include Artificial Side tone, Hook, Hold, Last Number Redial, Flash, Volume and Ringer functions. The GlobalstarTM network is comprised of 48 Low Earth Orbiting Satellites picking up signals from over 80% of the Earth’s surface, excluding extreme polar regions and some mid-ocean regions. Several satellites are capable of picking up a call. This “path diversity” assures communication even if the transceiver moves out of sight of one of the satellites. The “soft handoff” of transceiver signals prevents call interruption and maintains transmission of the original signal to the terrestrial “gateway”. Gateways process calls, connecting them to fixed and cellular networks, allowing a seamless and exceptionally clear call. The STX100 is constructed as a compact, lightweight, aircraft
grade, tray mounted unit that provides maximum mission flexibility and
quality to your communication suite, while the PTA12 is Dzus mounted in
a convenient location for pilot and/or crew access. Upon acquisition of
the STX100 system from an NAT approved dealer, GlobalstarTM must be contacted
to initialize and register the satcom unit, and to establish an air-time
account. This contact and registration information is delivered with the
STX100. For further information, visit www.northernairborne.com
