Title: Certification Engineer (Avionics)
Reports to: Certification Manager
Salary Range: Dependent Upon Qualifications
DESCRIPTION: The Certification Engineer, reporting to the Certification Manager,
is responsible for engineering and administrative activities in support
of avionics equipment and installation approvals through Transport Canada
and other aviation regulatory authorities.
The Certification Engineer shall be prepared to become a Designated Engineer
(DE) within the NAT Design Approval Organization (DAO), and assume the
responsibilities associated with appointment as a DE in accordance with
Transport Canada Airworthiness Manual Chapter 505.
REQUIREMENTS: • BSc. in electrical or electronics engineering from a
recognized University, or be registered or eligible for registration as
a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
• A minimum of six years experience in avionics equipment or installation
engineering design and certification.
• A thorough knowledge gained through working experience of Transport
Canada and FAA regulations, standards and advisories applicable to avionics
equipment approvals (e.g. Technical Standard Order approvals) and installation
approvals (e.g. Supplemental Type Certificates).
DUTIES:
• Provide guidance to NAT designers and engineers to ensure designs
are in compliance with applicable certification standards
• Liaise with TC, customers, and development partner companies on
certification aspects of NAT products; • Prepare avionics hardware
certification compliance documentation, and perform functions of Designated
Engineer (Avionics) within the NAT DAO
• Witness avionics equipment performance and environmental qualification
tests;
• Prepare avionics product and installation certification compliance
documentation;
• Attend briefings and meetings with Transport Canada and other
aviation regulatory authorities as required to discuss certification aspects
of NAT avionics products and their installation;
• Review any in-service product deficiencies and prepare corrective
action plans as necessary in coordination with Transport Canada.
