Qualification Testing
NAT products are designed and constructed with the
highest quality material and components available. Before
leaving the factory, each unit must follow and pass a number
of rigorous test
procedures, involving a series of performance tests to confirm
100% operating capacity prior to release to the customer.
Environmental testing is a critical stage in the development
of all NAT products. Equipped for testing most categories
in the DO160 series, NAT's Environmental Test Lab puts each
design through a barrage of tests. Once passed in all categories,
the unit is ready for delivery to the customer or formal certification
by Transport Canada and/or FAA.
NAT History
Founded in Prince George and now located in beautiful Kelowna
BC Canada, Northern Airborne Technology Ltd. (NAT) has been
a leading designer and manufacturer of specialized aircraft
communication equipment since 1979.
In
1992, the Chelton Group of companies (part of Cobham plc,
UK) purchased NAT, expanding its avionics manufacturing capabilities
within Chelton’s own successful group of aerospace companies.
Chelton’s military and international contacts provided
several high profile projects for NAT.
The acquisition in 1997 of Applied Electro Mechanics (AEM)
Maryland, USA added high-powered amplifiers and speakers to
complement NAT’s existing medium-powered systems for
marine and land mobile applications.
NAT then purchased the assets of EMH Technologies of Memphis,
TN. EMH designed and manufactured control heads for most aircraft
communication and navigation radios plus CVR controllers,
digital to synchro converters, and a variety of unique specialized
devices. Customers included Federal Express, UPS and Smith
Industries.
In 2003, NAT acquired the assets of dB Systems, Redmond,
WA. Design is maintained in the Seattle area while the majority
of production and product support was relocated to Kelowna.
The combination of dB Systems’ and NAT’s commitment
to meeting customer needs with innovative audio systems and
TSO certifications, provides an integrated product line that
is wide-ranging and comprehensive.
With the restructuring of Cobham plc in 2005, NAT is now
within the Cobham Avionics & Surveillance division. Continuing
to develop avionics and electronic products in response to
industry demands, NAT is proud that many of its products have
earned recognition as ‘Industry Standard’. At
Northern Airborne Technology, quality of workmanship is surpassed
only by commitment to excellence in customer service.
